Magical Wooden Stick
Magical Wooden Stick was an installation which showcased REVEL tactile technology for SIGGRAPH’s 2012 Emerging Technology. REVEL uses reverse-electrovibration to create custom textures on surfaces. The installation centered on reactive paintings, toys, and sculptures which responded with tactile sensations when guests touched them while holding the “Magic Stick” a walking stick containing a REVEL signal generator.

I was responsible for adapting REVEL technology for use with the many different objects used in the installation. I developed methods for coating the custom shapes with the conductive and insulating layers necessary to make the electrovibration sensations.
I was also the stage director for the demonstration, organizing the required infrastructure and coordinating between Disney Research and SIGGRAPH as well as helping build the actual installation.
