I designed and built a rotating cylinder for the Robots Group at Disney Research. The cylinder is designed to support the SARCOS humanoid, a 200 lb hydraulic biped at Carnegie Mellon. The Robotics Group is experimenting with having the SARCOS walk on the cylinder as it rotates.

This entailed:

Dynamic Cylinder

• Creating a detailed CAD model of the cylinder and its support

• Running FEA simulations to ensure the cylinder would hold if the robot fell

• Creating engineering drawings and worked with a machine shop to fabricate custom parts

• Designing the cylinder to easily separate from its base for more advanced experiments
For these experiments I also created a robotic support system that is used to catch the SARCOS Humanoid when it falls.
