Pipeline Profiler
I am the technical lead on NREC's Pipeline Profiler, an autonomous robotic crawler designed to inspect the pipe system used by Anglo American Copper's mining operation in the Andes Mountains. The robot uses a sensor suite of stereo cameras, laser rangefinders, and structured light to map the internal features of the pipe and look for flaws which may lead to a pipe rupture.
I headed a team of engineers and technicians in the development, construction, and testing of the first Pipe Profiler robot and then led a small team in the successful deployment in Chile in Sept 2017. We are planning the next second phase of the Profiler project.
